- The 1895 Marlin system was identical to the 1893 rifle invented by L. Hepburn, and was also an updated successor to the 1881 and 1889 Marlin rifles. This Marlin lever action rifle was produced starting in 1895 with 5,304 guns produced through 1906 (of which only 205 were carbines), and 18,000 manufactured through 1917.
- I got an email back from Marlin about my 336 manufacturing date. The guy said there is no chart he could send me but he did say the serial number: MR22xxxC signifies a manufacture date in 2012. No other information was given. My guess is that it was manufactured in February 2012.

Serial numbers from 3156 to 8200, plus a handful of higher numbers that appear in the ledgers. All parts were made at Marlin, I've never heard differently. Now having said that. There's a newspaper article out where Arthur states he has men in 1897 building a small number of 1895 rifles for the President of Mexico.
