My mouse 4 and 5 buttons work as back/forward within internet browsers. Original Poster 1 point 3 years ago. It's all set by default in mine too, but I was trying to remap them to forward/back. I closed synapse and apparently now they work to go forward/back without adjustment. IDK why they wouldn't work with synapse open. I want to turn off the mouse button 4 acting as a shortcut for the back button in IE. This is the most annoying I've ever seen and not to have an easy way to disable this is stupid. I don't see anything about this in mouse options. Does anyone know of a way to disable this hotkey? Ha, I can't believe they censored that.

Evoluent Mouse Manager is an optional but powerful software that may be installed to configure the buttons to perform many common functions. For example, button 2 may be configured to perform a double click with a single actual click to open a program, button 3 may be configured to open a link in a new tab, button 4 may be configured to cycle through open tabs, button 5 may be configured to close a tab, etc. This reduces the need to frequently move your hand between the mouse and the keyboard, and the need to move the mouse and click different areas of the screen.

TouchPad Button: Some laptops have a button near the top of the touchpad that allows you to quickly enable and disable it. You can toggle the touchpad off and on by using that button.

TouchPad Fn keys: Some laptops have an Fn key that, in combination with one of the F1 - F12 function keys, can enable and disable the touchpad. To toggle the touchpad off and on, press both of these keys at the same time.

Tip

The icon associated with toggling the touchpad is often indicated by a rectangle with a line under it. It may also have a pointing finger or a circle near or over a rectangle.

How to disable the touchpad in Windows 8 and 10

Using a mouse and keyboard

  1. Press the Windows key, type touchpad, and press Enter.
    Or, press Win+I to open Settings, and choose Devices, then Touchpad.
  2. In the Touchpad Settings window, click the Touchpad toggle switch to the Off position.

  5. On the TouchPad tab, there should be an option for enabling and disabling the TouchPad. It may be a button or a checkbox. Select the Disable option and then OK.
