Even from a distance, you can’t mistake the retro art-deco looks, offset curves, and unmistakable vibe of a classic Danelectro. The ’63 Dano is the company’s latest reissue of their classic “amp in a case” body style that caught the eye of many guitarists flipping through the Sears catalogs of the ’50s and ’60s. Based around a pair of ’56 Lipstick pickups, the new ’63 possessed impressive clarity when I plugged straight into my Deluxe Reverb.

It was easy to dial in a warm, round jazzy sound on the neck pickup (though I felt the tone and volume controls could be a bit more responsive). The mid position felt a bit thinner than my Strat, but offered enough “quack” for more textural, lo-fi funk parts. When combined with a Visual Sound Route 66 Overdrive, the bridge pickup served up a fair amount of sustain, but lacked some top-end bite. There were some intonation issues, but given the ’63’s playability and price, it will easily find its place among working players with nostalgic hearts.

Pros:
Immensely playable. Wonderfully musical tones in the neck and mid positions.

Danelectro DC 59 Pro model Re-issue series: Made in China Serial number: 010615 Unusual color:Beatnick Burgundy Hardware:satin silver This model has the Pro bridge which allows intonation to be indivudually adjusted on all 6 strings-not just the basic metal/wood non adjustable intonation bridges most Danelectros have Plays and sounds excellent.

My first Danelectro was the Danelectro Dano Pro, released in 2007. The original guitar was available from 1959-1964 and contained a singular pickup, and non-adjustable bridge in a 3/4 scale instrument. Evets updated the design with two pickups and a floating bridge with individual metal saddles for each string in a 25-scale full-sized design.

Cons:
Intonation issues. Could use more responsive volume and tone controls.

Serial numbers with an “S” prefix denote the 1970s (signifying a CBS attempt to use serial numbers to identify production years); an “E” prefix was introduced in 1979 to denote the 1980s. As seen in the overlap of numbers and years, even these references to actual production dates are rather loose. Back to my point - if Fender can do Danelectro bridges (and why would you on a non-dano) Danelectro can so do a finish that Fender essentially stole rom them (and from every late 60s stove/refrigerator).

This is really cool. You are looking at a Danelectro Dead-On '67 Baritone Reissue. Baritone guitars are between guitars and basses in length and tone, and this Danelectro model has a really meaty sound. Featuring two single-coil lipstick tube pickups for vintage tone, as well as a 3-way selector, the guitar also has a vibrato. It’s a double cutaway with a basswood body and takes it cue from vintage Danelectro models - the baritone was first introduced in 1956. It has a slim maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard.
