During WW2 and in subsequent years, production capacities in Lock Haven became short of and in 1955 the corporation partially moved to Viro Beach, Florida, where Piper Cherokee aircraft were already manufactured.
The company was re-branded and became known as New Piper Aircraft.

On May 1, 2009, American Capital Strategies sold shares of Piper Aircraft to Singapore's investment company Imprimis for $ 31 million. The management of Piper Aircraft hopes that this will lead to an expansion of the company's share in the Asian market.
In July 2009, Kevin Gould became executive director in place of James Bass. On December 1, 2009, Kevin Gould also became the president of the company, replacing John Baker.
