If you use role-based administration:
- Check and find that Server, Workstation & Computer Browser Service and all set to Automatic & all Running. Enable File & Printer sharing at the advanced network settings. Smb v1 registry entry is enabled. Ping to this Laptop is fine & Remote desktop connection to this laptop works, the only problem is the laptop won't accept smb.
- Sep 04, 2020 The best way to do that would be using the built-in Windows Firewall (or any other firewall) to block the TCP ports used by SMB-in and/or SMB-out connections. For those who don’t know, SMB is the acronym for Server Message Block, a sharing protocol for files and printers used by Windows operating systems since the early ’90s.
- NetBios services allow file sharing over networks. When improperly configured, ports 135-139 can expose critical system files or give full file system access (run, delete, copy) to any malicious intruder connected to the network.

- Check which firewall policy is used by the group(s) of computers you want to configure.
- In the Policies pane, double-click Firewall, and then double-click the policy you want to change.
- On the File and printer sharing page of the Firewall Policy wizard, select Allow file and printer sharing.
